Joel Spolsky: ...the development version of CityDesk has been using a new, smaller database schema (it's mostly the same as the old schema but with some redundancies removed to make it better normalized)
Last time I checked, a database schema with redundancies could not ever be called normalized

There are several normal forms. Also, some schemata may be denormalized for performance reasons.

So you will call a DB normalized if it's only in 1NF, let's say, but not in 2NF, 3NF...

The usual approach is to call a database normalized if it is in third normal form. However, there is one notable exception that is typically allowed - can you guess what it is?

Ну дык "Adhering to the third normal form, while theoretically desirable, is not always practical" як нас вучаць разумныя дзядзі.
