Patriot Act blockage a blow to freedom

I am amazed and shocked that Republican senators would turn traitor to side with the Democrats in opposing the extension of the Patriot Act. Liberals need to realize the war in Iraq is just one battle in the greater war against Islamofascism, and the president’s hands should not be tied in fighting for freedom. The Patriot Act gave the authorities the power to go after terrorists, terrorist supporters and subversives. The senators who opposed extension of the Patriot Act have won a battle for the terrorists. President Bush should just declare the Patriot Act a law and have the opposing senators arrested. Friday was a sad day for freedom.

Свободы без арестов инакомыслящих эти товарищи, похоже, себе не представляют.

Это как с гомосексуалистами - пусть себе существуют, если не вступают в гомосексуальные акты. И инакомыслящие пусть себе тоже инакомыслят, если молча. И пусть радуются, что их только арестовывают - могли бы в интересах самозащиты и на месте шмальнуть.

Ну вот, согласился с невыделенным, и оказался в одной компании с товарищем Стефенсоном, который считает, что неправильно голосующих сенаторов нужно арестовывать. Завтра товарищ Стефенсон скажет, что неправильно мыслящих нужно сажать на 10 лет, а послезавтра введёт тройки, которые будут выносить расстрелльные приговоры и на месте их исполнять.

Отнюдь. Со статьёй-то согласен, а выводы и нас разные. Так что мы не в одной компании.
А вообще меня удивляет способ аргументации по принципу "сегодня с нами ты не пьёшь, а завтра родине изменишь!" Это ни в какие ворота не годиться. Так кого угодно, из ничего, по наростающей, можно произвести в завтрашние палачи...

Меньше домыслов.

When I read statements like this I cringe as I try to comprehend the fact that people with such views are actually present in our society. It also pains me to think of the possibility that there may come a day when I would have to work or engage in otherwise substantial communication with someone like that, because I just don't know if I'd be able to do it.

Что-то вы засиделись в леволиберальной академической среде. Таких людей до фига. Другое дело, что общаться с ними, как правило, незачем.
